Post Magic LIVE Recommendations

Whew....August has been busy.

I lectured on kid's magic at the PCAM, attended Magic LIVE in Las Vegas and took a trip home to see mom, so I've been out of pocket. That's why it's taken so long from my last posting.

My basic goal is to feature at least 3 effects with each new blog entry that I consider to be worthy of a worker's attention. Also, if there is a particular effect for kids that I really like, I'll recommend it. And my "Book of Note" will call attention to any book I consider worth adding to your magic library.

Now, let's get to some Trick Talk.

David Regal's Clarity Box

Another beautiful effect from David Regal's fertile mind.

There are however a number of great effects that have come down the pike that are worth talking about -- namely David Regal's Clarity Box, which was a huge hit at Magic LIVE. Also, I like to tell you briefly about FORCE 4 by Wayne Rogers and the Giant Snaky Wand.

I'll let David show you himself.

This is a worker's tool. I predict that it's going to be a great seller.

FORCE 4 by Wayne Rogers

FORCE 4 does exactly what the name suggests . . . it allows you to force 4 envelopes or folded papers in a very fair manner without detection. And it's very clean.

Originally designed for Wayne's own chair test "Signs of Chaos".  FORCE 4 can be used in many types of routines.  Serious Mentalists and magicians will find a use for FORCE 4 in their act.

This is getting a lot of attention from pro magicians worldwide.

Paul Rohmany says it’s "the ultimate tool for professional" and Kennedy - That Mind Reader Guy said, "I put it in my show straight away, for a completely different purpose and it KILLED people."

Essentially it is a mentalist's forcing tool the effectively delivers the precise information you require so that YOU can deliver sensational miracles!

Highly recommended.

Giant Snaky Wand by Sumit Chhajer

This is an old Supreme Magic item that was a staple in many performer's repertoires for years. Then, it faded away, like many time-tested effects, it became unavailable due to Supreme's demise.

Luckily, Sumit Chhajer has decided to reissue it, and I believe it's a winner. Not so much a trick as it is a bit of business that is so very crucial when performing for kids. And your routine doesn't have to be associated with a Snake Can.  It's it is modular so you can place it into any routine. A regular-sized magic wand instantly turns into a jumbo snake. Who can resist!

If you're of a mind, GET ONE. You will use it.

Book of Note: Full Bloom (2 Book Set) by Gaetan Bloom & Kevin James

In my opinion, Gaetan Bloom, the Man, the Myth....is nothing short of pure genius on two legs.

Having recently seen his live performance in Las Vegas at Magic LIVE, it re-instilled in me the idea that I was in the presence of a true genius at work. Just watching him was like being at a boot camp for performing artists. Simply brilliant. Some much creativity.  Soak it in people.

Honestly, I would think anyone serious about performing would jump at the chance to tap into Bloom's brain and get a glimpse of his insight.

Full Bloom delivers two huge volumes with over 150 effects!

According to Andy Nyman, "The material is absolutely sensational as is the design and production. It is an absolute modern classic."

Hey, I'm getting my set before they're completely gone -- and they will be.

Until next time, remember to keep the magic alive,

Tim Mannix

Just in Time for Christmas!

Hello fellow magicians, I'm so very sorry I've be completely remiss in posting to the Trick Talk blog since Magic LIVE in August. Boy Scouts' honor that I'll be better in the new year. There have been so many really great tricks to come out this year, especially in the second half.  The ones that immediately come to mind are Cue the Magic! , Flash Tray , Rope, Nut & Knot by Giovanni Livera,  and Inferno by Joshua Jay. The Slammin' Sizzlin' Hot Tricks Lately Most recently I cannot more strongly recommend The Final Cut by Bob Kohler and Scott Alexander, 52 Shades of Red by Shin Lim, VAPR by Will Tsai and Pocket Money by Wayne Dobson and  The 100th Monkey by Chris Philpott . Check out the video below: On the kid show category, I recommend Audience Testing Device by Kandu Magic, Princess in a Pickle by Silly Billy, Evaporation by Louie Foxx and Insta-Snake by Wolfs Magic.  All are first-rate ...

Wayne Dobson is Awesome!

Wayne Dobson is awesome. I like his magic and I really like his thinking about magic. He works smart -- and I'm all always for that. Two of his newest effects are prime examples of working smart. They are completely self-working, utilize regular bicycle cards and require absolutely no memory work and what's best, they reset instantly. However, don't let the term "self-working" influence you  negatively ,  because  the impact on spectators is that it stymies them! Even the most accomplished pros speak regularly of working SMART, rather than working HARD. Both of Wayne's effects meet this precept. Plus,  at their core,  they're   completely entertaining. Although both Guesstimation and Second Chance by Wayne Dobson can be presented as straightforward card effects, I believe they play far better as acts of mentalism. But, that's just my opinion.  Here's the basic effect of Second Chance : Without you even touching the deck a...
